Exercise 1

  • Complete Your 90 Day Goals

Before getting started with the 90 day goal setting make sure you access the folder on Google Drive from the resources section above that will give you access to the Full Kaizen Success System worksheets, the action plans & the quarterly review templates (both of which will be discussed in later videos).

Follow the instructions in the video by taking the template folder and moving it into your drive, then making copies of everything in there for your full edit access rights.

Once you have all the files and folder structure set up correctly it’s time to start preparing your 90 day goals and breaking down those larger 1 year goals into the 4 quarters. The 1 year goals could be broken down in 2 key ways:

    1 – Numerical Goal

If the 1 year goal has a numerical value attached to it then think about how you could spread that over the course of the year.

For example if your goal was to lose 20 lbs of weight in the next 12 months then you would be looking at 5 lbs per 90 day block if you take 25% of the total value.

However as suggested in the video aim to hit 35% of your yearly goal each quarter so in this case that would be 7 lbs per quarter.

This gives you a buffer in case of unforeseen circumstances and any roadblocks that may appear along the way. If there aren’t any roadblocks along the way then you will simply reach your goal sooner or achieve even more than you set out to achieve which is fantastic!

2 – Done or Not Done Goal

If the goal doesn’t have a numerical value and it’s either you complete it or you don’ t then it’s time to consider how you can take this larger goal and break it down into smaller tasks.

As an example if you are planning on having a holiday all booked by the end of the year then you could choose specific tasks each quarter to compete.

It may be Q1 you book your flights, Q2 you book your hotels, Q3 you book all your activities and tours and Q4 you save money for spending when you go.

This is just a simple example but look for ways to chunk the larger 12 month goals down into smaller more manageable bite sized pieces. This is the best way to take a large and sometimes daunting goal and make it much more manageable and seemingly easier to achieve.

The 5 step Goal Setting Process again is:

1 – Define What, Why and When
    2 – Conformity
    3 – Scope
    4 – Develop a Blueprint
5 – Draw Up an Action Plan

At the 90 day mark we do need to focus on all 5 steps however for this lesson just worry about steps 1 – 3. The other steps will be explained in later lessons.

Once you have worked out how to take your 1 year goals and break them down into 4 blocks then fill out the next 4 quarters of your 90 day goals at the beginning of the Kaizen Success System Worksheet for that specific quarter.

Remember to include why each of these 90 day goals are important to you and choose which of the 8 areas of your life they are in. Once you have filled each of the 90 day goals in, visually look to see if you feel you have a balance in terms of having goals in all 8 areas of your life. If you do great, if not why not and do the following 90 day goals make up for this lack of balance?

Once you have all 4 of the 90 day goals worksheets filled in keep in mind you will need to be flexible and adjust as the year progresses. Also understand that the 90 day block you are about to start will likely be far more specific and detailed than the remaining 90 day blocks for the year. However you should still aim to at least loosely plan all 4 quarters so your 1 year goals are mapped out ready for success.

We are really at the pointy end of the goal setting here so get this completed and we will walk you through the action plans for each of these 90 day goals in the next lesson.

Exercise 2

  • Complete Your 90 Day Goal Action Plans

Now it’s time to create your action plans for each of your 90 day goals.

Start by making sure you have copied the template version of the worksheet and made a full edits access rights version in your Kaizen Success System folder.

This should then be moved into the correct quarterly folder for that year as this is what you will be referring back to for the next 90 days. For example the Q1 2017 folder where your Q1 2017 Kaizen Success System worksheet will be sitting.

Once you have that you need to make a copy in the correct folder for each of your 90 day goals. Name it something obvious so you know which action plan is for which goal. This is where you will complete steps 4 (develop a blueprint) and 5 (draw up an action plan) of the 5 step goal setting process.

Now for each of your 90 day goals start by selecting which area of your life the goal is in at the top of the action plan worksheet. Then copy the goal over from your 90 day goals along with filling in the due date on the right hand side.

Next is your current position, which is where you are right now. Consider this an opportunity to see where you are and where you want to get to so you can determine how to bridge the gap in the next 90 days. Also place todays date you that you’re setting the goal in the todays date section.

The resources section is a place for you to identify any people you feel you need to help you achieve this goal and any tangible physical items as well. If the resources are people then consider where they are needed in the action steps section further down the worksheet.

The potential obstacles is just an area where you can try to see what might cause this goal to not be achieved in the next 90 days. If there are obstacles list them here and then determine what the solution is ahead of time so you can be sure you can work around it and not get stuck at the obstacle.

Finally the action steps section breaks the 90 day goals down into the 13 week blocks. As mentioned in the video there is technically 12.85 weeks per 90 days but work with the 13 weeks blocks.

The idea here is to again take the 90 day goals and chunk them down into a numerical value on a week by week basis. Or to take the larger 90 day goal and break this down into smaller weekly tasks that will see you achieving the 90 day goal.

At this point you can get as detailed as you like. Chances are the first 4 weeks will be a lot more detailed when you first fill this out than the remaining weeks however you can add to and edit this at any point.

This is where the weekly goals from the Kaizen Success System worksheet really comes into play. You can now take these and move them into your 5 weekly goals to complete. Then when you have those 5 weekly goals you can start to look at your Ivy Lee Rule of 5 and how you can do specific things each day of the week to ensure you achieve your weekly goals. If you are achieving them then this means your 90 day goals will be meet and then your 1 years goals and bigger will too!

Exercise 3

[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””]

  • Choose Your First Weekly Challenge

Start by opening the weekly challenge list PDF document from the resources section above. Have a read through the 52 weekly challenges so you gain an understanding of the types of challenges you can attempt over the coming year.

Start by choosing which challenge you would like to try first. There is no hard and fast rule about how to do this, you can choose at random, you could work through from 1 – 52, you could start with whichever you feel is easiest and work your way up to the harder ones or the reverse.

Essentially the idea behind these challenges is they are there to encourage you to make a positive change in some way in your life. Change can be hard, but change is good and necessary to move you from where you are to where you want to be.

These challenges can also highlight any bad habits you have in your life right now and gives you the chance to work on a week by week basis to change your routines in these bad habits. This goes back to the habit loop where by changing the routine you can turn the bad habit into a new good habit that gets you the result you want.

You will see that weekly challenge is now in the Kaizen Success System worksheet so make sure you fill this in moving forward and do your best to complete it week on week. Be sure to keep track of how you went, any lessons you learnt along the way and whether or not you successfully completed the challenges or not. This information will can and most probably will be used in both the weekly and the quarterly reviews that we talk about in later lessons.

Remember these challenges are designed to move you a little way outside your comfort zone, some more than others and everyone will find different challenges have differing levels of difficulty.

However if you can create some new good habits and use these on a daily basis in your life moving forward, you will see yourself moving towards your ultimate life vision much faster than before.
